Individual and Group lessons

At our Charlotte, NC studio, Clayworks offers private lessons for beginners and artists of any level. Choose between throwing on the potter’s wheel or creating a project using handbuilding techniques. Work with one of our talented instructors to make clay project that will last a lifetime.

Working with one of our talented instructors, participants will learn the basics of throwing on the potter’s wheel. You will be given plenty of clay to practice with. At the end, each participant chooses their best 2 pieces and the glaze color they want them finished in; Clayworks takes care of the rest!
Choose one of our popular projects or work with the coordinator to develop a unique project for your group. All participants are lead by one of our talented instructors on how to construct the project using different handbuilding techniques such as pinching, coiling and slab building. Participants will create their own unique project and choose the glaze color it will be finished in.
We have a variety of talented instructors that can help you grow your ceramic skills. Just let us know what you are looking for a we can design a lesson, or series of lessons just for you.

Types of Lessons

Your Lesson Details

- Time: By appointment, based on studio availability. Please give us 5 days to process your request
- Location: Clayworks
  4506 MONROE ROAD, CHARLOTTE, NC 28205
- Instruction, materials, firings and packaging of the artwork. Artwork created will be fired to maturity and will be food, dishwasher and microwave safe. The work will be available for pick up about 3 weeks after the lesson.
- Throwing on the potter's wheel - learn the basics of throwing
  - Ages: Ages 11+ *exceptions can be made on a case by case basis
  - Group size: 1-6 participants
  - For group of 7-10 people, email shughes@clayworksinc.org
  - Length: 2 hours
  - Cost: $215.00 for the first two people and $65 for each additional person
- Handbuilding - choose a specific project to create
  - Ages: 6+
  - Group size: 1-15 participants *for larger groups, please contact shughes@clayworksinc.org
  - Length: 2 hours
  - Cost: $215 for the first two people and $65 for each additional person
