Studio Assistant Work-Study

Do you want to learn the behind the scenes process of a well-running ceramics studio? Are you interested in working 4 hours a week in exchange for 24/7 access to the studio, a $35 monthly firing stipend, and other great benefits? Then consider the work-study studio assistant program!

We’re looking for someone who, above all, provides a stellar work ethic. This involves high-attention to detail, reliability, and an insatiable urge to learn everything the studio has to offer. Sounds like you? Great! Let’s talk about the tasks…

Description

Your weekly 4+ hour commitment would involve the daily tasks and upkeep of the facility. Tasks range from loading/firing kilns, reclaiming clay, to cleaning the studio and setting up the gallery for our two annual shows. You would play a key role in keeping the studio running smoothly. 

Requirements

  • Motivated with a positive, goal-achieving attitude

  • Eager to learn and take ownership of duties

  • Excellent communicator who works well with others

  • Willing & able to clean on a regular basis

  • Standing/walking for long periods of time

  • Ability to carry & move heavy objects up to 50 pounds each week

  • Use of power tools such as a drill, an angle grinder, a bench grinder, etc.

  • Wearing a particulate respirator and safety glasses

  • Exposure to materials that are used in the ceramics process

  • Available to work during the work week is preferred but not required

  • A bachelor’s degree in ceramics or equivalent experience is preferred but not required

We’re going to need the following from you:

  • Cover Letter - 1 page. Tell us why you want to be a major part of the Clayworks community and why you have what it takes to be on our team

  • Resume - 1 page. Relevant studio experience is always a plus

  • 5-10 images of your artwork - Show us what you’ve done and maybe where you would like your work to go.

We are currently accepting applications for an Assistantship positions are currently filled. Applications are accepted throughout the year when all assistantships are filled. We will hold onto and review applications when an assistantship becomes available.
