Community Programs
Clayworks has been a partner with the Arts and Science council to provide Culture Blocks programming to the residents of Mecklenburg County since 2016. Culture Blocks embraces and celebrates the cultural life and desires of residents, connects communities to arts and culture activities that speak to their interests and seeks to break down barriers to participation with cultural organizations. As an ASC Program funded by Mecklenburg County, Culture Blocks is a community partnership with Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation to provide cultural programming closer to where residents live.
Below are our the Libraries and Recreation Centers where we lead workshops. During a Clayworks workshop, one of our talented teaching artists will lead the participants in a hands-on-clay making session using a variety of handbuilding techniques. The projects will travel back to Clayworks where they will dry and go through their 2-step firing process. We will glaze the projects before returning them to the location where you participated in the workshop. That location will contact you with pickup instructions.
Space is limited in each workshop and they fill up quickly! Be sure to register using the link below or by contacting the location.
For questions about the program, contact Susan Hughes, Deputy Director of Clayworks.

•••••Creative Clay Videos•••••
Thanks to funding from Culture Blocks, Clayworks created Creative Clay Videos for people to use to create in clay at home. Click on the link above to follow along with one of our teaching artists walking you step by step to create a wonderful project. To make working in clay easy to do from home, the videos were created using air dry clay and finished with paint.
