Carl Wilson

Carl Ray Wilson is an accomplished artist and educator with a diverse background in photography and ceramics. Originally from West Virginia, he earned his undergraduate degree in photojournalism from Ohio University before going on to earn an MFA in Photography from Utah State University. Alongside his photography studies, Wilson also developed a passion for pottery and ceramics that he pursued throughout high school and college.

After completing his education, Wilson relocated to the Charlotte, NC area where he began teaching photography and Photoshop courses. With over 12 years of experience in teaching these mediums, he has become a respected educator and mentor to countless students. Currently, Wilson is an adjunct faculty member at Wingate College where he continues to teach photography and Photoshop courses.

Although Wilson's focus had been primarily on photography and digital media for many years, he recently returned to his roots in ceramics. In the summer of 2022, he decided to get back into pottery in a serious way by taking some advanced classes at Clayworks in Charlotte, NC. Rekindling his passion for the medium, he began to create functional pottery work, leaning heavily toward throwing on the pottery wheel.

Wilson's skills as a potter quickly caught the attention of the local arts community, and in the spring of 2023, he began teaching for Clayworks in their Culture Blocks programs. Today, he is known for his intricate and functional pottery pieces that showcase his unique aesthetic and attention to detail.
