Clayworks has brought [my daughter] into the art world and surrounded her with ideas, and love, and patience, and kindness...and she has grown tremendously.

We believe in enriching our community

We take the words, “enrichment of the communities it serves,” in our mission statement very seriously.  A significant portion of our time, talent, budget, and planning is dedicated to reaching under-served communities in Charlotte, including disadvantaged children and disabled adults.  We believe that everyone, no matter their circumstances, can share in the wonder and sense of accomplishment that comes from creating with clay.

  • Our Clayworks Mobile Studio allows us to triple the number of young people we reach since 2014.  We have served more than 12,000 people in our community.
  • Clayworks hosts classes for InReach, a program that supports adults with intellectual, developmental, and other disabilities and their families. InReach students sell the work they create at Clayworks in a self-sustaining business.
  • More than 3,000 bowls have been donated by Clayworks students, teachers, and studio artists to support the Second Harvest Food Bank’s Empty Bowls fundraiser.

If your organization would like to learn more about our Community Impact Programs and how Clayworks may be able to work with you, please email Susan Hughes or call 704-334-4842.

We like to go into high poverty neighborhoods and work with community centers within those neighborhoods. It really can transform a child’s life.
