Our mission statement is “Clayworks is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of ceramic arts, advancement of artists and students, and enrichment of the communities it serves.” We take the “enrichment of the communities it serves” part very seriously by dedicating a significant portion of our time, talent, budget and planning to reaching disadvantaged children and disabled adults. There is a certain wonder and a great sense of accomplishment when creating with clay, and we believe that everyone — no matter what their circumstances — deserves the opportunity to do that. We also believe that “being part of the community” means being part of the entire community.
Our Clayworks Mobile Studio has allowed us to triple the number of young people we reach since 2014. We have served more than 12,000 people in our community.
Clayworks hosts classes for In Reach, a program that supports adults with intellectual, developmental and other disabilities and their families. These challenged adults have taken their Clayworks experience to a new level and plan to open a self-sustaining business selling ceramics they create.
Each year, Clayworks studio artists, instructors and students create more than 300 ceramic bowls to support the Second Harvest Food Bank’s Empty Bowls fundraiser. More than 3,000 bowls have been donated in the last ten years.
While there are clear benefits to the people who participate in our Community Impact Programs, Clayworks’ commitment to the community goes to the core of the role of ceramics in history: to create items that are utilitarian and can be used everyday but also provide a unique insight into the mind of the creator and the end user.
If your organization would like to learn more about our Community Impact Programs and how Clayworks may be able to work with you, please contact Susan Hughes at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 704-334-4842.
Clayworks depends upon the support of individuals, businesses, foundations and arts organizations to be able to serve children and adults in our Community Impact Programs. You can support Clayworks by visiting our Donate page.
